For Abbas Tajudeen, he would have preferred not to be engaged in a power tussle and the endless backlash that has trailed his annointment as President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidate for the speaker of the 10th National Assembly in Nigeria.
Back and forth discontentment and divided opinions has engulfed the President-Elect’s choice to choose whose voice would echoe leadership activities at the House of Representative. While many feel Party influence in the scheme of things affects the plausible values of democratic selection. Zoning two National Assembly leadership positions to the North-west doesn’t seem to appeal to many of the Members-elect across Party line.
During a recent chat with Osbourne Ogwell of the Africa Bloggers Forum, a public policy analyst and social political commentator Daniel Ebo talked about the potentials of the 10th National Assembly. He also douse on why Hon. Abbas Tajudeen possibilities in changing the conventional narratives of the National Assembly leadership.
“The 10th National Assembly leadership seem to hold alot of potentials. Anybody who gets Asiwaju’s annointing and recommendation is a deserving of it. He knows how to converge the right persons in the helms of leadership. The case of Mr. Abbas’ selection as speaker should be celebrated. I have known him for a very long time now. He is one of those who tick all boxes in the checklist. He has served as Member and Chairman of various committees at the National Assembly. He is not just a highly experienced politician, he knows his onions.”
Daniel Ebo also lay emphasis on the spread of Mr. Abbas Tajudeen tendencies and his scorecard in the private sector.
“Dr. Abass has shown that he is a pin up guy for the job. Look at the number of bills he sponsored in the 9th House of Representative. Driving over 75 bills within the life of the National Assembly is remarkable. His courage and vision is essential and necessary for today’s solution to the country’s institutional problems. He places a high premium in creating more ideas that will connect NASS with the need of millions of Nigerians. He is one guy who likes a highly-motivated and educated populace to spur high tech boom and bring rapid development to the country,” he further asserted.
According to Dr. Abbas; his scorecards and track records are obvious.
“The fact that you contribute more than any other member in the 9th assembly? You are qualified based on public and private sector experience. Does that make me weak? What people need to understand is to go and look at the pedigree and the antecedent of every member, the issue of being rubber stamp is neither here nor there,” Dr Abbas said.
“The North-West has seven states and in the last election, we gave the President-elect more than 2.7 million votes. In every presidential election before now, the region that gave the highest votes is almost always the North-West. Secondly, the North-West has 93 members out of 360 which is almost 26 percent of the entire members of the House of Reps; that is another factor that needs to be considered,” Dr Abbas concluded.
Dr. Abbas Tajudeen stands on the notion that he statisfy both zoning and merit criterion. He is particular about what he can bring on board to keep Nigerians on the beneficial podiums. He is very familiar with sector-based investments that can propel economic diversity.
As the coming days unfold, will Dr. Abbas Tajudeen splendid form in the 8th and 9th continue, as the 10th Assembly warm up for in June 3rd, 2023?
