The 2023 Presidential election has come and gone and now the next hurdle before us as a nation is the question of “who leads the 10th National Assembly?” This piece chooses to dwell much on the question of who leads the 10th Senate?
First of all, Godswill Akpabio is a household name in Nigeria.
The fact that he is a former two-term Governor, former Minister, former leader in the Senate and former Presidential aspirant has placed his miles ahead and has put him in pole position to lead the 10th Senate.
Godswill Akpabio as Governor of Akwa Ibom State did superb, as Senator and later leader in the Senate, he was astounding, as Minister he was brilliant, effective and efficient and as Presidential aspirant he was remembered to have voluntarily stepped down for then fellow aspirant now President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the best interest of the APC and Nigeria.
Looking at the current situation of Nigeria especially in the light of the fact that Nigeria now has in waiting, Muslim President and Muslim Vice President at the same time, it is just and fair that the “Number 3 Citizen” of the country should be a Christian. Also, considering the fact that the current Senate President is from the North, it is just and fair that it rotates to the South as the last time a Southerner was ever Senate President was 2015, which was 8 years ago.
Ceding the Senate Presidency to the South-South region is a right step in the right direction towards building a Nigeria that works for all. Also the South-South is the region that gave Tinubu his second biggest Southern votes during the recently concluded Presidential election.
Senator Akpabio is a rallying point for the people of South-South and the South after President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He will very well compliment the efforts of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigeria.
The plans and policies of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu require a well-experienced Senate President to see them through every step of the way. For a Senate that will be led by a well-experienced Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio is the right man for the job of Senate President.
